Ours first event of 2019 is the Galloway Antiques Fair at the Majestic Hotel in Harrogate from 4th – 6th January . Please contact me for complimentary tickets
The fair here occupies The Ballroom, Drawing Room and Reading Room on the ground floor offering easy access and boasts car parking for around 200 cars, something very unusual in a Harrogate town centre hotel.
There is also a £20 million refurbishment program well under way (expected completion May 2019) that will make The Majestic one of the finest hotels in Harrogate.
Built at the height of Harrogate’s prosperity in the 19th century, the Majestic Hotel is a palatial and stately Victorian property, set in 8 acres of private gardens in the heart of this elegant spa town.
In the years before the First World War, Europe’s spas were frequented by royalty. Prince Henry of Prussia stayed at The Majestic while organising an Anglo-German car rally in Yorkshire, the extremely wealthy and extremely handsome Maharajah of Patiala was a also a guest, as were a number of Russian grand duchesses. Harrogate, like London, had its Season and the staff of the Majestic grew used to receiving some remarkable guests. The hotel’s very name carried such cachet in Harrogate that even the staff were treated royally. George Mercer, who worked there as a waiter between the two world wars, recalled that if you announced in town that you were from the Majestic, “People took a little bow”.
