Like many sculptors of this period, little is known about Sybille May. She was born in England but worked in France in the 1920’s and early 1930’s . She was part of the Arthur Goldscheider  groups of artists La Stele and L’Evolution and was known for her Cubism influenced figures in the style of Art Deco. L’Evolution was an artist’s society that exhibited at the Arts Decoratifs Exposition in Paris in 1925. Some of her angular ceramic figures were decorated in subtle monochromatic hues by her friend and colleague of the group La Stele, Édouard Cazaux (1889-1974). She also was known to have collaborated with the sculptor Pierre Le Faguays .  May worked with bronze (partly gilded) and ceramics; Many of her figures were made by the Goldscheider foundry and other works were produced and distributed by Éditeur d’art Albert Buisson.
