Art Deco bronze figure of a Dancer by Paul Philippe



An extremely finely detailed dark green patinated bronze figure of a nude young woman in an elegant pose by Paul Philippe. Excellent hand finished detail to this delightful figure shows the exceptional skill of the sculptor. Signed in the bronze base P Philippe this figure was made in France c 1920. A similar figure (clothed) is shown in Berman’s Bronzes reference 1816 and titled Stepping Out. Also shown in Bryan Catley Art Deco and other figures (clothed) and titled Grace


Paul Philippe (Franco Polish, 1870 ~ 1930)

Born in Thorn in Poland, He became a pupil of Antonin Larroux when he moved to Paris. He exhibited with success at all the French salons. Philippe worked in both the Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles in the 19th and 20th Century; working in bronze, bronze and ivory and pure ivory his figures are sought after worldwide by collectors. Amongst his most recognised works are Le Reveil – the Awakening, Russian Dancer and ‘Radha

Condition Excellent original condition. A small old repair to the back of the marble base.
