Description
Art Deco gilt bronze figure of an oriental dancer by Fortunato Gori. Very finely detailed with swirling skirt and graceful movement. She stands on one foot with an arm raised showing her finely detailed bodice and clothing. Signed to the base F Gori in the marble base and hand finished the figure is in excellent original condition. A charming figure
History
Affortunato Gory (also known as Fortunato Gori) was born in Florence and studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti under Augusto Rivalta. At the turn of the 20th century he moved to Paris and completed his education under Victorien-Antoine Basset. He successfully exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1902, 1904, 1912, 1914 and 1923.
He is known for working primarily in the Art Deco style often in chryselephantine, with figural studies of dancers, young women, children and some historical figures.
