An Art Nouveau patinated bronze figure of a  female nude by Otto Schmidt Hofer ‘Posing’. Signed in the bronze Schmidt Hofer. Red marble base. A similar figure is shown in Bermans Bronzes Volume 4 item 4277. The figure is very finely detailed and well sculpted. In excellent original condition and was made c 1910

Otto Schmidt-Hofer (1873-1925 was a German sculptor who worked during the late 19th century and early 20th century. His work was primarily Neoclassical and Art Nouveau between 1893-1914 and Art Deco from 1915 until his death in 1925. He was a very versatile sculptor and was able to transition from the style of Art Nouveau to Art Deco without difficulty. He was born in Berlin in 1873 and studied at the Akademie der Kunst in Berlin and at the Berlin Academy of Decorative Arts. He was a member of the National Association of Artists in Germany. This figure was produced in Germany c 1910. Schmidt Hofer died in Berlin in 1925. He was regarded as one of the premier sculptors ever produced by Germany.
