Description

Art Nouveau Very large glass bowl decorated with a pond life scene by Ernest- Baptiste Leveille. The translucent glass has red glass and silver foil inclusions. It is blown and shaped with five pinched corners. The inside is textured with a decoration of trees, plants and flowers. The outside is decorated with enamels in relief with two frogs, a salamander a large fish and various water plants and reeds. Polished pontil to base and marked L12 to the underside. A magnificent piece of glass

History

Ernest-Baptiste Léveillé (1841-1913), known as Ernest Léveillé. Founder of the Maison Léveillé in 1869 at 74 boulevard Haussmann in Paris He was a pupil of Eugene Rousseau and in 1885 he took over the workshops of  Eugene Rousseau and worked there from 1886 to 1890 under the name of “Maison Rousseau and Léveillé “. Léveillé created the models and had them made, then engraved, according to very precise indications. His cracked vases engraved on three layers of glass earned him a gold medal. Returned “E. Léveillé” after the death of Eugène Rousseau in 1890, the store is transferred in 1899 to 140 Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris. In 1902, Ernest Léveillé teamed up with Maison Toy, a porcelain and crystal company, under the name “Maisons Toy and Leveillé united”. The company is then located at 10 rue de la Paix.
