Art Nouveau patinated bronze figure of Psyche by Felix Gorling. A well sculpted and beautiful figure of a standing female beauty looking at a Butterfly on her left arm which is slightly raised. The beautiful woman is leaning against a tree which is draped with her gown. Superbly cast and with excellent hand finished detail, the figure is signed in the bronze F Gorling and with a Foundry mark for W H Gladenbach und Sohn.


Felix Görling (1860-1932)

The sculptor and painter Felix Görling was born in Leipzig in 1860. He received his training from 1881 to 1884 with Fritz Schaper at the Academy of Arts in Berlin. From 1897 Görling was on the board of the Berlin bronze foundry of Hermann Gladenbeck, later he acted as its technical director, from 1918 until the liquidation of the company as artistic director. Görling contributed significantly to the foundry’s global reputation. Görling designed numerous classical monuments and busts , which were made in the Gladenbeck bronze foundry. In 1884 he took part with the fencer at the Berlin Academy Exhibition, in 1891 he was represented at the International Art Exhibition with a statue of Emperor Friedrich I. In addition, he created small bronzes that were sold as edition sculptures and are now traded in well-known auction houses. From 1901 to 1920 Görling was a member of the Association of Berlin Artists. He also worked as a landscape painter.

Since 1880, he lived in the Berlin district of Friedrichshagen . For many years he was a member of the community council. He was also the creator of the monument to Frederick the Great, which stands on the market square in Friedrichshagen; The foundation stone was laid in 1903 for the 150th anniversary of Friedrichhagen. Görling accompanied the emperor on his northern travels. When the Kaiser was visiting Friedrichshagen, he never failed to pay a visit to Görling to see the latest products from the foundry.

Felix Göring died in Berlin in 1932.
