A silvered and patinated bronze figural group showing a Knight in full armour with sword and spurs, carrying a partially draped maiden who is being carried on his upturned shield. Superb detail and cast. The title is inscribed to the base. Signed Clemencin and with a foundry mark for Unis France. A superb piece

History

Francois Andre Clemencin was born in Lyon France in 1878. He studied in Paris and was a pupil of Jules Coutan. He exhibited regularly at the Salon Des Artistes Francaises from 1907 and was awarded a silver medal in 1921. He was well known for his sensual bronze figures, monuments and also as a medallist. He died in 1950 in Paris
