Gabriel Argy Rousseau Pate de verre Chardons vase

Description

A beautiful  multi-coloured Pate de verre vase ‘Chardons’. Made c 1915 in France. A similar piece is shown in Janine Bloch-Dermant, “G. Argy-Rousseau catalogue raisonné”, Les Éditions de l’Amateur, 1990, n° 15.03, page 178 . The subtle green and blue hues of the glass make this a most charming piece.

Argy Rousseau was born near Chrtres in 1885 and showed early talent as a designer and artist. He met the Pate de Verre pioneer Henri Cros in 1902 . He first exhibited at the Salon des Artistes in Paris in 1914 and quickly dained success for his work.

The subtleties of pate de verre pieces and the beautiful colours make these vases highly sought after.
