Russian Dancer – an extremely finely detailed Art Deco cold painted bronze figure by Paul Philippe. The dancer is standing en pointe with arms outstretched. Her bejewelled gown is well cast with folds and drapes and is  highlighted with a bejewelled sash. The hand finished detail to this delightful figure shows the exceptional skill of the sculptor. Signed P Philippe to the original shaped marble base, this figure was made in France c 1920. This is the largest verson of this figure.

In 1900 he went to Paris where he lived at the Cite des Fusains, an artists residence located at 22 rue Tourlaque in Montmartre and became a pupil of Antonin Larroux. He exhibited with success at all the French salons. In 1902-1909 he exhibited at the Societe des Artistes Francais where his bronze, marble and ivory statuette Famiente and his bronze, marble and ivory group Grace et Force (Grace and Strength) both produced by Goldscheider were shown.
