History
Art Deco was the successor to Art Nouveau, and a key differentiator is the influence of cubism associated with iconic artists like Pablo Picasso. Deco influenced architectural design, such as the Chrysler Building in New York, furniture, jewellery, fashion, cars and even domestic objects such as vacuum cleaners. René Jules Lalique is considered one of the key influencers of the art deco movement. After a successful career making jewellery in the art nouveau style, he started to make press-moulded, glass vases in his factory in the Alsace region of France.
