Art Nouveau Fritz Heckert intaglio cut and enamelled dessert set. The set is comprised of a larger shallow bowl with handle and 4 smaller shallow bowls also with handles. The design shows fruit and leaves. A charming piece of Art Nouveau glass. Made c 1900-1910 . Large bowl 23 cm x 5 cm. Small bowls 12 cm x 3.5 cm. Light wear to enamel but otherwise in excellent original condition

History

The merchant Friedrich Wilhelm Heckert (1837-1887) – Fritz Heckert , originally from Halle (Saale), established a “glass refinery” in Silesian Petersdorf

This new enterprise bought glassware blanks from the nearby Josephinenhütte in Schreiberhau/Szklarska Poręba and enamelled them by adding elaborate decorations. Before long, Heckert became very successful. A historicist style was particularly prized and became very popular in Gründerzeit Germany and around the world.

In 1889, the company began manufacturing its own glass in a newly established factory. The range of products included colourful, oriental-styled glass, iridescent glass, and cameo glass. Production further increased with art nouveau-styled glass. Designers like Max Rate in Dresden and Ludwig Sütterlin supported courageous moves to create unconventional forms and colour designs. The company was eventually taken over by the Josephinenhütte in 1918.
