An Art Nouveau iridescent glass vase by Rindskopf, set in a patinated pewter mount with a floral design. Its striking colours and rich iridescence showcase the glassmaker’s skill and craftsmanship. Bohemian c 1895-1900. Excellent original condition, with a minor blown air bubble inside the top
The Rindskopf glassmaking dynasty began in 1841, when Josef Rindskopf established his first glassworks in Dolnà Polubný (Unter Polaun), Bohemia, now part of the Czech Republic. The region’s centuries-old glassmaking tradition provided a strong foundation for innovation and craftsmanship.
The company expanded under Josef’s sons, becoming Josef Rindskopf Söhne (Josef Rindskopf’s Sons) and later Josef Rindskopf Söhne A.G. (Aktiengesellschaft, or joint-stock company). At its peak, it operated several glassworks and employed hundreds of skilled artisans.
During the Art Nouveau period, Rindskopf produced some of its most celebrated pieces. Its iridescent glass rivalled that of Tiffany and Loetz, with innovative techniques creating striking rainbow effects.
Inspired by nature, its designs featured flowing lines, floral motifs and sinuous shapes that captured the Art Nouveau aesthetic. Its iridescent glass, often in peacock blue, golden amber and emerald green tones, became highly sought after. Proprietary techniques for applying metallic lustres created mesmerising surface effects.
